Last Day of school

Wednesday, June 18, 2014

If your child will be five years old by September 30, 2014 and you are a resident of Newton, New Hampshire, he or she is eligible for kindergarten in September of 2014.  Registration materials will be available beginning March 3rd at the Memorial School office and can be picked up any school day between 9:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Please bring your child’s original birth certificate when registering your child.

         * New Hampshire State Law requires all children to have had immunizations for DPT, Polio, Mumps, Measles, German Measles, Chicken Pox, and Hepatitis B prior to entry to school.  They also require each child to have a complete medical examination within one year prior to entry into kindergarten.  A form to be completed by your physician will be with the registration materials.  We recommend scheduling your child’s physical exam as soon as possible.  Students may not enter kindergarten without these completed forms.  Please plan to complete the registration process by June 13th, 2014 so that your child may be assigned to a classroom.

An orientation and information night for parents of incoming kindergarten students will take place on Thursday, April 3rd, 2014, at 6:30 p.m. at Memorial School.  School personnel, the principal, assistant principal, school nurse, guidance counselor and kindergarten teachers, will be available at the orientation to answer any questions.

All incoming kindergarten students will participate in a screening process. Student screenings will take place Thursday, April 10th and Friday, April 11th.

Newton residents should call Memorial School at 382-5251 to schedule a screening appointment.

Our Memorial School students kicked off the holiday season in outstanding fashion!  The Memorial School 5th Grade Chorus and the Memorial School Glee Club entertained a large crowd at the Sanborn Regional High School auditorium with their Holiday Concert last week.  Congratulations, and thank you, to our fourth and fifth grade students.

Memorial School recognized veterans by creating a Wall of Honor in the school.  Students and staff were encouraged to fill in stars with the names of veterans to recognize their service and sacrifice.  Thank you, Veterans, for your service to our country.

We have a number of new paraprofessional staff members, as well.  Ms. Shannon Kearney, Ms. Karen Radjavitch, Ms. Amanda Hackney, Ms. Sue Vadeboncoeur, Ms. Melissa Cossette, and Ms. Shannon Cole all join our staff for the coming year.

We are also pleased to welcome Ms. Sheila O'Sullivan to our staff.  Sheila is our new school nurse and comes to us from Exeter Hospital where she worked as an emergency room nurse.

 A Message from the Principal:

In an effort to continue to find additional ways to communicate information to everyone, I would like to share a blog site with you that I have recently created. Please visit: to read a bit more about my perspective on various educational topics.  My first post is in relation to the ongoing work our Memorial staff is doing in their Professional Learning Communities. Memorial School’s recognition in the fall as an exemplar PLC in the nation was the impetus for this post, as I wanted to provide an overview of some of what this work entailed (and continues to entail) for our entire staff.  I will let everyone know when our blog is updated through our newsletter, Facebook, and our web-site ( Thank you for visiting my blog, and please let me know if you have any questions.
